What is scaling?

Scaling is a deep cleaning service. It involves removing the dental tartar from the surface of the tooth. Scaling helps to fight against gingivitis and periodontal disease. As a non-surgical procedure, scaling is typically performed without any anesthesia. Our office uses the Cavitron ultrasonic scaling machine to treat our patients more effectively.

What is root planing?

Root planing, another deep cleaning service, involves smoothing out the root services and removing any infected tooth structure. Another non-surgical procedure, it also generally does not require anesthesia unless you are suffering from advanced stages of gingivitis.

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a generative disease. Built-up tartar and plaque on your teeth provide an environment where bacteria multiply and thrive, which results in bleeding and inflamed gums. If left untreated, it can cause significant gum and tooth deterioration. At an early stage, gingivitis can easily be treated with polishing and scaling. When it is left untreated, however, your condition can deteriorate and you will need a root planing.

What is the process?

The procedures for root planing and deep scaling in Battle Creek, Michigan, are usually broken down, and the dentist will work on one section of the mouth at each appointment.
