Going Back to School? Here’s Your Back-to-School Dental Checklist

Posted .

Going back to school can be an overwhelming and exciting thing, and it is important to get your backpack and wardrobe ready as well as your smile! To help prepare your smile, we recommend completing this back-to-school dental checklist:

1. Schedule your professional dental cleanings.
If you want to have a strong and successful oral health, it is important to attend your six month dental checkups. Many people often forget about these appointments, but we are here to help you refrain from doing so! If you schedule your dental appointments while you check off the remaining tasks on your checklist, you won’t accidentally miss your chance to deeply clean your smile.

2. Establish an oral hygiene routine.
Are you brushing twice a day and flossing once a day? If so, keep up the good work! If you have an established oral hygiene routine, you won’t forget to brush and floss before you rush out the door in the mornings.

3. Pack yourself healthy food for lunch and snacks.
Healthy food not only helps with your overall health, but it also helps improve the health of your pearly white chompers! Try to eat more fruits, vegetables, string cheese, and unsweetened applesauce instead of granola bars, candy, and fruit roll-ups. If you do so, you will have a smaller chance at developing tooth decay!

4. Guard your smile from oral injuries.
If you participate in contact sports or activities, it is wise to protect your smile with a mouth guard. By wearing a mouth guard, you will shield your smile from the hard, forceful objects that hit it, and you will save your time, money, and comfort by doing so.

5. Replace your toothbrush.
If your toothbrush bristles are frayed or if you have used your brush for more than 3 or 4 months, it is time to replace it. If you have a strong and functional toothbrush, you will have the best chance at having a strong and functional oral cavity.
