Oral Hygiene

At Lakeview Dental Care, we are committed to helping you reach and maintain long-lasting dental health. However, achieving a healthy smile requires more than just care from Dr. Chilimigras; you must also maintain a consistent oral hygiene routine at home, including:

Flossing

Use dental floss to remove plaque and food particles from the areas between your teeth. Dental floss, a thin thread of nylon, is used to clean between teeth below the gum line. Please remember that it is very important to floss every day.

Before you go to bed, floss to make sure that your teeth are clean.  When you first start flossing, it is possible that your gums may bleed a little.  Please let our team know if your bleeding does not stop after the first few times flossing.

Brushing

Before brushing your teeth, make sure you have the right equipment! Use a small strip of fluoride toothpaste and a toothbrush with soft bristles. When you brush your teeth, hold the toothbrush at an angle, and slowly move the brush in small circular motions to reach food particles that may be under your gum line. Also remember to brush all areas, including the surface of each tooth and in-between your teeth. You should take several minutes to thoroughly brush your teeth. Brush your teeth at least twice a day to avoid build-up of plaque and food particles.

Healthy Diet

Your oral health is closely related to your overall physical health. Maintaining a proper diet and eating healthy foods are crucial to maintaining good oral health. When you avoid frequent snacking and sugary foods, you are less likely to get cavities. Drinks and snacks that have a high level of sugar coat your teeth and advance the bacteria that cause cavities. In order to fight cavities, it is very important to brush your teeth regularly, eat healthy foods, and drink water often.

Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you have questions about how to maintain your dental health. We are prepared to help you take charge of your own dental health so you can enjoy a healthy smile.

Check Ups

In addition to your daily dental routine, it is very important that you visit Lakeview Dental Care at least once every six months for cleanings and exams. Dr. Chilimigras and his team have been professionally trained to thoroughly take care of your teeth. Exams give Dr. Chilimigras a chance to both evaluate your oral health and help prevent any serious dental problems.

During your cleanings, you can expect our team to perform:

  • Scaling
  • Root Planing
  • Polishing

When you attend your regular cleanings, you are helping to avoid potentially unnecessary dental problems. Call us today, and let us know when we can schedule your next dental cleaning.
